Term first coined in cyberpunk literature, used in contrast to cyberspace. Whereas cyberspace refers to the “virtual reality” world of the internet, meatspace refers to the corporeal or real world.
Activities such as eating, sex, defecating and personal hygiene are meatspace activities and, to some extreme hackers, may be considered a waste of time better spent in cyberspace.
