The ability for one program to interoperate or exchange data with another, separate program. Incompatibility is often the bane of every new technology, which discards old systems and capabilities in favor of a faster, more efficient process.
Incompatibility is also often used intentionally to prevent others from using a program, either to gain market share, to protect Intellectual Property, and/or because previous programs were not secure.
