Compliance refers to the actions related to a strict adherance and enforcement of a command, specification, rule, standard, protocol, code, etiquette, etc. Compliance is often voluntary, however computer users are often blocked from a network or other resource until they comply.
Compliance rules are enforced in the quarantining of suspect machines for viral infection removal. The issue of securing ballot machines for a legitimate count also involves compliance. The analogy to remote attestation is similarly problematic because authentication keys can be forged.
Many people believe that a system of hardware compliance will inevitable push out insecure software thereby making a Trusted Computing environment. Others fear this will bring on an Orwellian dystopia.
