Copyright Term Reform/Project Name

< Copyright Term Reform

Criteria:

  • should be short enough for a URL (not neccesarily! if you can shorten to a url, that’d be OK)
  • should be easy enough to spell (by whom? the URL or the name?)
  • being internationally useful would be an advantage
  • hopefully should have an acronym or name that has an available domain. .info or .org preferably?

The names in brackets are not available anymore (after Domain Status).

Project name suggestions:

  • Intellectual Progress
    • (ipreform.*)
    • intellectualprogress.*
    • iprogress.org
  • [World] [Citizens for] Copyright Reform
    • (copyrightreform.org)
    • (wccr.org)
    • globalcopyrightreform.org
    • (gcr.org)
    • citizensforcopyrightreform.org
    • (cfcr.org)
  • Copyright Reform Now
    • (corenow.org)
    • (crn.org)
  • Copyright Heaven
    • copyrightheaven.*
    • (chrn.*)
  • Science of Progress
    • scienceOfProgress.org
  • (projectliberty.org)

(from my dictionary: Liberty

1) freedom, especially political
2) free from confinement or restraint
3) unoccupied or disengaged
4) free to do or be as specified
  • limitedtimes.org
  • usefullarts.org

How about projectliberty.nu?

  • Here are the good, the bad, and the random, of my brainstorm:
    • pl.org with the full title being Project Liberty
    • digitalcommons.org
    • TheLibertyProject.org
    • DigitalLiberty.org
    • ProjectLibre.org
    • copyrightliberty.org
    • IPliberty.org
    • operationliberty.org
    • operationfreedom.org
    • thelibertymission.org
    • projectfreedom.org
    • thefreedomproject.org
    • thelibertyinitiative.org
    • tli.org
    • projectRenaissance.org (Don’t like it. Renaissance is too hard to spell!)
    • thepandoraproject.org (I kind of like it, but has some negative connotations….)
    • projectpandora.org (ie. look at this huge can of worms we are openning)

It is the people (in contrast to big business) for whom the new copyright is too long lasting, as consumers AND as authors:

  • copyrightforpeople.* — CopyrightForPeople.*
  • yourcopyright.* — YourCopyright.*
  • copyrightforyou.* — CopyrightForYou.*
  • copyrightforall.* — CopyrightForAll.*
  • meaningfulcopyright.* — MeaningfulCopyright.*
  • copyrightasyouwantit.* — CopyrightAsYouWantIt.*

The main focus should/could be on the fact that 98% of copyrighted works are not commercially rewarding and/or available any more (after Lessig):

  • longliveyourwork.* — LongLiveYourWork.*
  • longliveyourname.* — LongLiveYourName.*

We also could point this out by what a short copyright offers the author: money first, his/her name known even after expiration and a good social deed after all (I don’t know if “&” is allowed in URLs):

  • money&name.* — moneyandname.* — MoneyAndName.*
  • myname&money.* — mynameandmoney.* — MyNameAndMoney.*
  • money&good.* — moneyandgood.* — MoneyAndGood.*
  • goodmoney.* — GoodMoney.*
  • good&money.* — goodandmoney.* — GoodAndMoney.*

These are specific to what our mission is (all available):

  • copyrightterm
  • copyrighttermreform (this is attractive because it is very specific)
  • changecopyright
  • copyrightchange
  • diemickeydie

how about:

Userights

Use has 2 pronunciations so you have 2 meanings. use [your] rights, and [fair/natural] use rightsIt directly counters ‘copy’rights. (in fact it’s too bad U in a circle is already taken by that kosher emblem)

Another word for use that doesn’t have a circle logo?
