Darknet is a term coined by Microsoft to describe the total instances of illegal file sharing that occurs over peer-to-peer networks. Intellectual property rights are not regarded within the darknet. The darknet makes copyright law enforcement more complex and subsequently more difficult for authorities.
Microsoft and the Darknet were discussed recently in a paper by the company. infoAnarchy covered the report here. This article was then covered by Slashdot.
From the authors of the paper “We see the darknet having most direct bearing on mass-market consumer IP-goods.”
