Enforcement is about forcing the power of laws or rules, regardless of free will. Laws are created to influence people to comply with the government‘s authority. Laws without enforcement are not important as those that are enacted or policed. Rules without consequences for breaking may amount only to suggestions.

Enforcement may involve surveillance, random inspections, search warrants and seizures of personal property, court orders, discipline measures and criminal punishment.

The internet makes it difficult, if not impossible, for a growing number of laws to be enforced due to lack of global laws for cross-national infractions.
