1. Refers to how fast a video card can render a given environment. Each frame, or picture of a rendered setting, takes a certain amount of time to process and the faster this is done, the faster the FPS. The higher the rate, the better the video card.
2. A genre of video games where the screen represents an avatar‘s vision, often with a weapon just to the side, as if held by an adjacent appendage. Major selling first-person shooters include Doom, Quake, and Half Life.
