A free development environment, by Benoît Minisini, licensed under the GPL. It is based on a Basic interpreter with object extensions, similar to Visual Basic although the author stresses its not a VB clone. Its easy to develop a GUI for your application with Gambas, or to access a MySQL or PostgreSQL database, or to pilor KDE applications with DCOP, translate the program to other languages, create network applications easily, etcetera.
Gambas has recently hit version 1.0. It features the following integrated components:
- A compiler.
- An interpreter.
- An archiver.
- A graphical user interface component.
- A development environment.
It runs (http://gambas.sourceforge.net/distribution.html) on basically every Linux distribution and work is underway to get the ball rolling on Windows, *BSD, Solaris, MacOSX (FreeBSD 5.0 already works).
