Instigator of the Freenet Project for an anonymous, distributed, data storage network. Born in Ireland, Ian moved to Edinburgh in 1995 to study Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science. In his fourth year at Edinburgh, Ian wrote a project paper called “A distributed decentralized information storage and retrieval system“, which became the Freenet project.
Ian is currently CTO at a company called Uprizer which attempts to use Freenet’s technology to minimize bandwidth costs for content distribution.
