- The photographic industry group that periodically release new standards for digital photography image compression.
- The original file format standard released by above-mentioned group. JPEG or JPG is a lossy file format for that can produce good, small-sized compression for photos. It is used all over the Internet and in digital photography. Recently, it has been superceded by the JPEG2000 format, though the new format has not met widespread adoption like its predesessor. JPEG compression is based on the Discrete Cosine Transform, Quantization, and Run Length Encoding.
