The study of the psychological link between the mind and culture is called memetics. All transmitted knowledge is memetic, however unlike epistemology the science of memetics is still highly debated with no clear conclusions reached. Some people believe the idea of memetics is nonsense. Instead they believe the terms information and communication are more accurate.
Memes can be seen as the basic units of cultural transmission and evolution. They are the ideas, fashions, and techniques regardless of validity, which are replicated contagiously through social networks, often through communication.
Memes modify people’s opinions and/or their behaviour because the idea obviously increase inclusive fitness. Memes can be censored by obscurity and construed for self interest.
