Popular science fiction writer with published novels about the Internet and credited with coining many terms now actively used on the Net. Stephenson was a Techno/Cyber fiction author with an ethical and philosophical bent.
Stephenson’s writing style is quirky and clever (the main character of Snow Crash is named “Hiro Protagonist”). His metaphors are unrelenting:
- “Y.T. Where are you?”
- “In the parking lot of a Safeway in Oahu,” he says. And he’s telling the truth; in the background she can hear the shopping carts performing their clashy, anal copulations. – From Snow Crash, page 79
