PostScript is Adobe‘s page description and font language. Apple made it popular with desktop publishing and the LaserWriter printer in the mid 1980s. A postscript file was so useful for off-site printing, it quickly became a standard.
Postscript is not a character set. Postscript use mathematical formula, called Bezier curves to render text and images smoothly at all sizes.
