Host for a large number and variety of open-source projects, however, the software that runs SourceForge is proprietary software. It provides services for collaborative software development such as CVS, forums and web hosting. Towards the end of 2003 SourceForge was hosting around 70,000 projects.

Sourceforge is good place where computer users can search for programs to install and download, some legitimate replacements for proprietary software. The software found here is usually not bundled with ads, spyware or other malicious code.
