Acronym: Scalable Processor ARChitecture

An open RISC architecture standard similar to Alpha and Motorola processors suitable for servers and Integer-based computations as opposed to the x86 from Intel, AMD and others which focus on floating-point operations.

There are various versions and implementations of the SPARC. Sun Microsystems is the most popular vendor, currently selling the 64-bit UltraSPARC which implements SPARCv9 standard. Fujitsu is also a SPARC vendor.
