Aka: GIMP

The GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a free software suitable for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. The GIMP is written by Peter Mattis and Spencer Kimball, and released under the GNU General Public License (GPL). It is a program for Unix and the X Window System but there is a Windows port.

Recently, The GIMP has reached version 2.0. A huge improvement over the 1.2 tree. There have been a number of people who have said that The GIMP is not yet ready to be called a complete replacement for Adobe Photoshop although it certainly has more functionality than the ancient versions of Photoshop.
