3DES

Also known as: TripleDES

A commonly-used encryption algorithm, or cipher, derrived from the insecure DES but many times more powerful. It is a common algorithm used by default in many pre-AES encryption programs, including SSL and SSH 1.

3DES is a Symmetric-Key Cryptosystem.
