In computing scalability refers to the number of users on a network or computer system and how well hardware performs when demand for capacity is high. It is also related to a measure of the size of a community.
If something can scale well then it is possible to expand without requiring major specification changes or re-entry of data. Successful decentralised peer-to-peer networks require good scaliblity of services so that the size of the file sharing pool can continue to grow as required.
